Tests & Assessments

Many people are introduced to the Enneagram through a test or assessment that is meant to help you discover your type. Enneagram experts have differing opinions on the accuracy and methodology of assessments, and we know there are many schools of thought. The tests featured here are arranged by cost and were chosen because they come from people and organizations who have been reliably teaching the Enneagram for many years.

Wagner Enneagram Personality Style Scales (WEPSS)

from Jerome Wagner

The Wagner Enneagram Personality Style Scales (WEPSS) from Jerome Wagner aims to cross the divide between quantitative-based mainstream psychometric approaches and less mainstream “interpretive approaches” to personality. It is the only Enneagram inventory reviewed in Buros’s Mental Measurements Yearbook, the recognized handbook in the testing field.

The WEPSS offers a rich, thick description of test results very similar in texture to that provided by the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. To take the WEPSS, you simply rate 200 words or phrases on a 5-point scale. The results are expressed as percentile scores based on a sample of 1429 people, and it costs $10.

Riso Hudson Enneagram Type Indicator (RHETI® version 2.5)

from the Enneagram Institute

The Riso-Hudson Enneagram Type Indicator (RHETI® version 2.5) from the Enneagram Institute is a scientifically validated, forced-choice personality test with 144 paired statements. Rather than just indicating your basic type, the RHETI® produces a full personality profile across all nine types, indicating the relative strengths and weaknesses of the nine types within your overall personality.

Your results come in a PDF format and include your scores for all nine types in a full-spectrum profile, as well as the Expanded Type Descriptions (of over 2,500 words each) for your top three scores. The test takes about 40 minutes to complete and costs $12.

You can also take a sample RHETI test for free. It includes 38 questions and will help you narrow down your likely type. To get a fuller picture, the complete test will give more reliable results.
